Q. How much did you enjoy their Olympic run and what happens when training camp starts? I assume they get a little easing in of things to come. JJ Redick: Yeah I mean, look, those guys are professionals in every sense of the word. My concern for them about whether or not they’ll be ready to play on October 22 and be in shape, I don’t have that concern. We’re gonna work with Mike and Ish making sure that they feel that they’re in a great place to start the regular season. They’ll certainly be involved in training camp and the preseason here in September as well as preseason games.

Shaquille O’Neal: “I was fortunate enough to play for coaches like Phil Jackson and Pat Riley. When you have coaches like that, you listen. When Phil Jackson tells you to run a play, you do it because you’ve seen him win six championships. You know he knows what he’s talking about. But when you get a young coach who hasn’t won anything, there’s a different level of respect. You might think, ‘I’m a better player than this guy ever was. Why should I listen to him?’ That’s what I think the Lakers are going to face with JJ Redick. LeBron and AD will keep everyone in line, but I think it’s going to be tough for a young coach to get that level of respect from veteran players.” -via YouTube / September 7, 2024
Even though expectations are high though, Lakers legend Magic Johnson urged fans to be patient with JJ Redick, via Sports Central LA with Jim Hill: “We as Lakers fans gotta give JJ Redick, our new coach, some time to really help him understand how to utilize the talent, how to coach the talent, and then also what schemes will work, and what schemes won’t work. Because this is not going to be easy for him. But I think having LeBron as your captain [helps] and one of the greatest that’s ever laced them up in AD, and they showed Laker fans and basketball fans around the world what they’re capable of doing in the Olympics.” -via Lakers Nation / August 30, 2024
Jeanie Buss on JJ Redick hire: “We wanted to kind of think a different way. Really, he’s got a vision. I’m not comfortable talking about the basketball stuff, but we were looking for a candidate that would bring something different. And really invest in developing young players. JJ is the right person for us. Again, I just want to work to really speak for itself. So I don’t want to hype it and say it’s gonna be a home run. We have to give him time to establish what he wants to establish. I’m really impressed with his staff. Right now, it’s not mandatory for the players to come in and practice but players are coming in and working out. The coaching staff with Nate McMillan and Scotty Brooks, there’s a lot of experience that will be there for him to make that adjustment to being a head coach. Certainly a 12-year career in the league, he’s got a lot of experience. He knows what this league is about and I think he’ll be a great leader.” -via am570lasports.iheart.com / August 23, 2024
Stephen Curry: “It’s positive self-talk. We were winning, and I was doing my part—setting screens, playing hard—but I wasn’t making shots. I knew at some point I’m going to need to make some shots because that’s why I’m here. After we played Puerto Rico, I was doing an interview, and they were asking me, ‘What’s wrong with your shot? Are you worried about it?’ I said, ‘No, we’re winning, and I know a flurry is coming.’ As soon as I said that, LeBron walks behind me and says, ‘Damn right it is.’ That gave me a lot of confidence. It caught me off guard because, you know, I had to get used to liking that guy after all of our battles. But it was a confidence boost, and it came at the right time.” -via YouTube / September 8, 2024
In his latest podcast episode of “The Shop” LeBron shared what he thinks it will be like to experience that moment when it inevitably comes. “I’m excited as – I am so excited. I am so excited for training camp. Having your son work with you, it’s like the greatest thing. I can’t wait for this moment. I really can not wait to hit the floor for him. It’s going to be pretty surreal for me. That might be the first time I sit back and, like, out of my whole career, finally get an opportunity to sit back and be like, ‘Oh s—, this is really cool.’ “I haven’t been able to do it for myself and maybe because I’ve been trying to climb this mountain. I’ve been so in this moment my whole career that I pray and hope that me being with my son will finally give me an opportunity to pull back and look at it from a different lens and appreciate it.” -via Silverscreenandroll.com / September 8, 2024
During the 2010 NBA Playoffs, Noah talked about how Cleveland is a boring city leading up to the Bulls’ 2010 playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers. When asked about it after a loss, Noah responded with the most direct question of all time. “Do you like it,” Noah asked reporters. “Do you think Cleveland is cool?” “I mean I never heard anybody say I’m going to Cleveland on vacation. What’s so good about Cleveland?” Years later, Noah upped. the ante on his logic: “I never left my hotel,” he told Scoop B Radio. “And I haven’t been in Cleveland since. So, I can’t tell you too much about it.” But, Noah does give Cleveland, LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love their props for putting the 216 on the map after winning the 2016 NBA Finals. “They definitely did,” Noah said. -via Clutch Points / September 6, 2024
