Lakers not interested in trading LeBron James, Anthony Davis

Two players who almost certainly won’t be traded, barring them asking out of Los Angeles, are Davis ($43.2 million) and James ($48.7 million). Despite the recent groundswell from certain media and fans to blow up the roster, the Lakers are not currently considering trading either superstar, according to team and league sources. They want to bolster their supporting cast and continue building around Davis and James.

LeBron James in the last 20 seconds: an emphatic dunk in transition; a chasedown block on Desmond Bane; a putback layup to put the Lakers up 9-2.
LeBron’s energy levels seem to be as high as they’ve been this season after missing the last two games. – 9:48 PM
Kamenetzky Brothers @KamBrothers
We’ll see how this new starting lineup looks over this game (or more), but one potential advantage is that a backcourt of Reaves and Christie, combined with Rui/LeBron/AD makes the Lakers pretty big across the board. Not “two-big lineup” big, but definitely not small. AK – 9:47 PM

More on this storyline

Dave McMenamin: Lakers practice news: – LeBron and AD went through individual workouts with assistant coach Greg St. Jean at the facility and will participate in the group practice tomorrow, per JJ Redick – Christian Wood will not travel to SAC, but is starting on-court workouts vs. asst coaches -via Twitter @mcten / December 17, 2024
What do you think is going to happen if not a single trade happens to the Lakers? Jovan Buha: I don’t think LeBron and AD are going to be happy, and at that point, they can ask out. We’ll see how the rest of the season plays out, and can they somehow go on a run and maybe exceed expectations, and maybe that quells some of the frustration or anger from not making a move. Otherwise, I think that opens up the possibility for some bigger changes in the offseason.” -via YouTube / December 17, 2024
The Lakers all get another break — they don’t play again until Thursday in Sacramento. It’s another chance for James to rest, return and spark the Lakers. “He had a week off. Had some energy, which kind of brought energy to us,” Davis said. “He’s obviously dealing with some stuff. But I think a week off kind of just let him heal and get back right. And he came out with a ton of energy, which kind of got us going.” -via Los Angeles Times / December 16, 2024
Of course, Bronny James ($1.2 million) would not be included in a trade that doesn’t include LeBron, team and league sources told The Athletic. -via New York Times / December 17, 2024
Shams Charania: I’ll break some news: LeBron was in one of his homes — he has many homes around the world — just resting and rehabbing. This is a guy who’s turning 40 in a few weeks, playing in his 22nd season. He’s in peak shape but still needs to take care of his body. If that means disappearing for a few days to recalibrate, so be it.” -via YouTube / December 17, 2024
